“A ‘diaspora filmmaker’ and refugee from Iran and later from Sri Lanka, Neysan Sobhani is a filmmaker rooted to his Persian heritage while making films in China, including his debut feature, GUIDANCE, in Mandarin. A blended-genre, blended-culture film, GUIDANCE, was released in Chinese cinemas & later worldwide (2022) to critical acclaim.

Indie budgets and censorship restrictions honed his film language in unique ways. His films have been described as Social Sci-Fi, with themes and flavors reflecting an atypical history. Fleeing conflict and war in his childhood and youth, he pursued international relations and diplomacy with a passion at the U.N. War Crimes Tribunal and the International Criminal Court, before returning to storytelling.

His films have been selected and received prizes in over 40 international film festivals.”
